Tim Marlow

Head of Autonomous and Connected Vehicle Research


Tim Marlow is Head of Autonomous & Connected Vehicle Research at Ageas UK. He joined Ageas in April 2013, ran the Integration Programme that followed the acquisition of Groupama Insurance Company Limited and has developed and implemented strategies and solutions for telematics and Usage Based Insurance across Ageas’s UK companies. He is now focussed on the impact on the motor insurance market of increasing vehicle automation and connectivity and ultimately of the arrival of both highly and fully autonomous vehicles on Europe’s roads.

Tim has extensive knowledge and experience of developments in automotive technology and the associated legal and regulatory framework and of the insurance marketplace, having spent more than 35 years in the industry, holding senior positions at a number of companies including Hiscox, Eastgate and Capita and helping to set up and launch the UK’s largest telematics insurance operation at Insure The Box.

Thomas Hallauer

Research and Marketing Director


Thomas Hallauer has gained 10 years of operational marketing experience in the domain of telematics and location-based services. He is an expert in new products and services notably in the automotive, motor insurance, navigation and positioning industries.

Having organised more than 25 international conferences and being a frequent blogger of telematics news, he has built a large network of relationships in the global telematics landscape.

Thomas researched and co-wrote the UBI Global Study, the reference document for the telematics insurance market published in October 2013.
Thomas is also the co-author of the European Location Study, the most comprehensive report on the location business and technologies published in May 2010

Previously, Thomas was working for Mobile Devices, one of the global providers of telematics technology platforms. He built a marketing strategy to promote the rebranding of their offering, launched new products and services and drove inbound marketing and sales.

Previous to that, Thomas was the head of Telematics Update. He researched, wrote, published, marketed, set up and then chaired 25 successful conference and exhibition globally

David Williams

David has over 30 years' experience in General Insurance, roles including Chief Commercial Underwriter at one of AXA's largest branches, Reinsurance Manager, Casualty Insurance Manager, before moving to claims in 2003. After leading AXA's Personal & Commercial Claims Teams, David returned to Underwriting as Managing Director, Underwriting, and now has a broader role reporting in to CEO Brendan McCafferty, as part of the newly recombined AXA general insurance businesses in the UK

He was heavily involved in the government and ABI responses to the ‘Liability Crisis' way back just after the Access to Justice Act, and continues his lobbying work as the insurance industry looks to remove unnecessary costs and delay from the current adversarial compensation process. He is an outspoken critic of Claims Farming, Credit Hire, High Legal Costs and exaggerated Whiplash Claims.

As well as operating at an Executive level within AXA Insurance, David is a Non Executive Director of AXA Assistance UK, Vice President of the CII and Chair of the CII Underwriting Faculty. He is Chair of the recently formed Autonomous Driving Insurance Group and RISCAuthority, was previously a member of the National Stakeholder Council for the Governments ‘Workplace Health Connect' initiative during its currency, and was a Director of Thatcham, the Insurance Industry Motor Vehicle Research Institute for four years.

He is a member of various AXA Group Boards and has represented the UK on Asbestos, Health, Pollution and Fraud issues. He speaks regularly at conferences and other events in the UK and Europe on a variety of subjects including most recently, improving customer service, flooding, climate change, Big Data & Driverless cars

David has also appeared on BBC Breakfast TV, Sky, Channel 4 and BBC News, as well as Radio 4's ‘Today' Programme, being interviewed on topics varying from Compensation Culture to Business Crime.

David Wong is Senior Technology and Innovation Manager at the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, the UK's automotive industry trade body. Established in 1902, SMMT acts as the voice of the UK automotive industry by supporting and promoting the interests of more than 700 member companies at home and abroad.

David runs SMMT's technology and innovation portfolio which includes connected and autonomous vehicles, electro-mobility, hydrogen-mobility, digital and mobility innovation, and design engineering. He sits on the UK Automotive Council Technology Group, a government-industry partnership that sets strategic priorities and technology roadmaps for the automotive industry; the UK Government's Future Communications Challenge Group; and the board of Cenex, a low-carbon technology consultancy.

David was previously Business Models Co-Creator and Head of Organisations & Business Models Research at the Big Innovation Centre, a big business-funded innovation hub, where he advised private and public sector clients on business model innovation, value proposition development, innovation strategy and open innovation projects.
